Muji Wall Mounted CD Player

After using the Muji Wall Mounted CD Player once, I had an immediate reaction of “well this is fun” combined with the usual, “why didn’t I think of that”?

This future design classic is so popular because of it’s unique draw string control, encouraging the user to pull on it to start the spinning of the disc inside.

From Muji

Once it's up and running, you're able to use the included remote control to skip songs, adjust the volume, pause the disc, and change to the FM tuner.

It may come as no surprise that this design was created by none other than Naoto Fukasawa, one of my favorite industrial designers.

It was originally designed in 1999, and was produced for a limited time from Muji.

It received critical acclaim in the design world, and is now a permanent fixture at the MoMa in New York.

Classic 90s design doesn’t get much better than this.

Where can you buy the Muji Wall Mounted CD Player?

These are no longer in production, but if you use this search term on ebay, you can find them for about $100. If you set some alerts, you’re bound to get one eventually.

Amazon has some knockoffs, but I would highly recommend just waiting to see if you can get one of the used original versions.
